Six Sigma is a measurement of total quality in relation to how effective a company is in eliminating defects and variation from their processes. This standard is widely understood in the business world as a quest for process perfection. The processes of a Six Sigma level company operate at 3.4 defects per million opportunities — or 99.9997% error-free. Most companies operate at the Three Sigma level, which is 66,810 defects per million opportunities — or 93% error free.
Six Sigma drives the Five Initiatives and gives people a chance to develop their skills and make significant business contributions. It applies to every function at Honeywell, including Marketing, Sales, Product Development, Finance, Human Resources & Communications, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain. It is Honeywell's driver to accelerate improvements in all our processes, products, and services. Six Sigma tools and methodologies have resulted in more than $4 billion in savings for Honeywell.
