Honeywell's Airborne Cell Phone System enables the use of commercial GSM cellular phone for business jets in-flight. The system provides maximum convenience allowing passengers to use their personal phones on board and supporting those calls and text messages in the exact same way as land-based cellular networks. |
Features:
 | | Enables use of commercial GSM cell phones in-flight without interference to aircraft equipment or cellular networks on the ground |  | | Utilizes an on-board base station to direct phones to adjust to the lowest possible power setting |  | | Connects the phone via the Inmarsat satellite network to a gateway on the ground linked to a standard cell phone network |  | | Support voice calls and text messaging in exactly the same way as land-based networks charging calls to the user’s bill the same as any roaming call |  | | Flight trial successfully completed in August 2004 utilizing patent-pending technology from Altobridge Ltd. |
Honeywell successfully flight tested the system in August 2004 and hope to make it available to business jets by the end of 2004 pending FCC approval.
