 The B747-100/200/300 SPZ-1 Autopilot - Flight Director is an integrated automatic pilot/flight director (A/P - F/D) system in which the system computers are used for autopilot and flight director functions.
The system furnishes visual display of commands and provides automatic maneuvering of the airplane to maintain or change attitude, altitude and heading. The system provides automatic capture and tracking of navigation (INS or radio) signals. Turbulence control, various altitude and speed modes and go-around are also provided. Three channels are used for F/D and three channels are used for A/P. When in command engagement, the airplane is flown automatically through the autopilot channels.
