Test Methods |
 |
Honeywell Bremsbelag GmbH is using various test methods for development and along with the production processes.
|
| Noise Tests (NVH) | | | The majority of complaints about current vehicles refer to an unacceptable level of noise in the vehicle. 50 % of the engineering budget is spent directly or indirectly with regard to NVH (noise, vibration, harshness).
Honeywell Bremsbelag GmbH has 6 noise test rigs with which to produce every possible driving situation. With these test rigs, Honeywell Bremsbelag GmbH can carry out standardized performance and noise tests for vehicles, including light commercial vehicles and also special noise programs for heavy goods vehicles.
Apart from the standard analytical process when investigating noise problems, such as mode tests, laser vibrometer, acceleration sensors, microphones, etc., Honeywell Bremsbelag GmbH uses finite element analyses (FEA) so as to obtain a detailed understanding of the noise problem and to verify by computer the effectiveness of noise abatement procedures. |
| Test Methods for Brake Discs | | | It is known that HGV brake discs can rupture when using unsuitable brake pads. The extent of this phenomenon is affected not least by the selected friction material. Honeywell Bremsbelag GmbH is aware of the relevant rupture mechanisms – non-uniform temperature distribution on the friction ring – and has the tools with which to analyse this distribution. Honeywell Bremsbelag GmbH measures the surface distribution using a high-speed thermal camera or fully automated using a fast single point pyrometer. By using computer assisted simulation processes (FEA), Honeywell Bremsbelag GmbH can determine in advance, through sensitivity analyses, the effect of specific pad characteristics on the arising rupture.
Through this knowledge and by using these tools, Honeywell Bremsbelag GmbH has the possibility of being able to develop new friction materials in the shortest time or to improve those that already exist. |
