Specialty Materials Asia Technology Center

The Honeywell Specialty Material Asia Technology Center is one of the two tech centers of Specialty Materials outside the US (The other one is in Seezla, Germany). We expect it to become operational in September 2004. The responsibility of the center is to provide technical service, technology and application R&D, and technical marketing to enable SM’s global business growth, especially for the Asia Pacific Market.

Our goal is to establish a high quality technical team with state of the art instruments to cover all four growth businesses in SM. We have established five technical departments in our center – analytical, performance products, chemical, electronic materials and RLSS. So far, we have a good started with building a high caliber team. Most of our staff has post graduate degrees; half of them have Ph.D. and 1/3 have overseas experience. We also provide extensive technical and business training to our staff, both in Shanghai and in the US. We expect to invest in the order of 20 million USD to establish the laboratory for the center, with comprehensive state of the art capability in analytical chemistry, organic synthesis, polymer processing, material characterization and testing capabilities. We are in the process of finishing the basic construction. The fixture and first phase equipment installation will start in July and become operational in September.

Eventually we expect the center to have over 100 scientists and engineers, and become global center of excellence for application development, polymer processing, biotechnology and other technology areas.
