Our Culture

Our Culture

When people ask our employees what they like about the Kansas City Plant, the first thing they say is the sense of empowerment to solve problems. Second, they like the advanced technology and the opportunity to work with smart, highly-skilled people.

We take seriously the responsibility to create a stimulating workplace. We keep it interesting by allowing employees to rotate from job to job, allowing everyone to work on special assignments and different teams.

With scientists, engineers, and technicians working together in a culture of continuous learning, things can get intense. At the Kansas City Plant, we believe strongly in work-life balance and providing our employees with opportunities to find rewarding experiences both on- and off- site.

We believe our culture is a major attraction. These are our defining characteristics:

  Diversity
  Continuous Learning
  Benefits
  Values
  Communities
  Dynamic Careers

Diversity
At the Kansas City Plant, we define diversity as the uniqueness each employee brings to fulfilling our company’s vision, values, and goals. It permeates everything we do and impacts each of our key constituents: our people, customers, suppliers, and communities.

For us, diversity is not just gender, racial, ethnic or national differences. It's also educational background, age, life experience, thinking style, family status, sexual orientation, religion, culture, and physical/mental ability/disability.

We create a workplace in which each person is empowered, has the opportunity to grow and develop, and is recognized for his or her contribution.

Continuous Learning
We drive success by developing great people with great talent and skills. We link learning to results and personal development, and we create an environment where learning is a natural part of working together to improve our competitiveness.

The preferred way to learn at Honeywell is through challenging work assignments on the job and on the manufacturing floor with supervisors, professional trainers, and process improvement coaches. Much of it is team-based, which reflects our high-performance work team philosophy.

Our often-benchmarked learning program ranges from a minimum of 40 hours of mandatory, on-the-job experience to executive course work and educational assistance for advance degrees. We also offer opportunities such as the Technical Fellowship Program, in which employees become full-time graduate students in an approved technology area while continuing to earn up to 75 percent of their salary. In addition, our Leadership Development Program allows associates to rotate through different divisions in the company for two years while attending management classes.

Benefits
People who help make a company successful deserve to share in the rewards. That’s why Honeywell offers a variety of resources to help Kansas City Plant employees achieve their personal and professional goals.

Financial Well-Being

The Honeywell Savings Programs may be our employees’ most valuable asset in achieving financial goals. These programs help employees save money on taxes and take advantage of matching contributions that multiply savings. Benefits such as life insurance, disability income protection, and other insurance plans also help employees protect what they have and prepare for the future.

Health and Well-Being
The Honeywell Health Care Program offers choices in health care coverage, including medical, dental, and health care spending accounts for any out-of-pocket expenses. With a growing slate of coverage options, Honeywell continues to look for better ways to bring high-quality, affordable health care choices to its employees.

Knowing that an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure, we also promote employee wellness by offering programs such as health screenings and educational sessions. And for those who, regrettably, have a serious illness in the family, we offer a special program whereby some of the best doctors at Harvard Medical School team up to help you understand more about the situation you're in so that you're well-informed when you visit your physician.

Life Planning Tools and Resources
Life has its share of challenges, from daily work and family issues to major events like marriage, divorce, elder care, and relocation. To help employees deal with these challenges, Honeywell offers Life Planning Tools and Resources, including a “Life Events Line.” The Life Events Line provides free information, referrals, professional advice and counseling, all through a single toll-free (in the U.S.) phone line.

Work-Life Balance

In addition to our compensation and benefits plan, the Kansas City Plant offers services and benefits that help associates balance their jobs with family and personal interests. We help you juggle life's demands with flex-time schedules and on-site support services. We also encourage our employees to take advantage of our generous paid-vacation benefit and use time off from work to relax, refresh, and rejuvenate.

Paid Education/Training

Our culture of continuous learning includes not only on-the-job education and training opportunities, but also an Educational Assistance Program that can help with off-site coursework. We offer 100-percent reimbursement of tuition for approved courses related to current or future assignments.

Special Discounts

Honeywell’s special discounts program leverages the company’s buying power to help employees' paychecks go further. Discounts are available on real-estate commissions, mortgage fees, new and used cars, hotel stays, rental cars, books, and a host of other useful products and services. In addition, employees receive discounts on many consumer products that incorporate Honeywell products, such as carpet and automobiles.

Performance Discussions

To guide your development and career path at the Kansas City Plant, you will have periodic performance discussions with your supervisor. These discussions review your strengths and accomplishments, personal goals, and ideas for future assignments or placement. From these discussions, you will begin to map your learning plan.

Continuous Learning
Learning isn’t optional at the Kansas City Plant. To build cutting-edge products, we build the best individual skills portfolios in business. Learning opportunities may include on-the-job training, or you may take a class from a nearby college or university, attend a conference or participate in an online workshop. Rotational Leadership Programs

Mentoring is a central component of our rotational leadership programs. When you enter a program, you will be assigned an executive mentor who will guide your career development and serve as a resource for you. We have rotational programs for engineers across multiple disciplines, as well as for graduate and undergraduate students.

Recognition

Superior achievement never goes unrecognized. At the Kansas City Plant we celebrate unique and diverse talents with our STARR awards program. STARR—Significant Technical Achievement Reward and Recognition—recognizes associates for technical and innovative achievements in five technology categories, including:
  Processing
  Product
  Information
  Environment, Safety and Health
  Quality/Testing
One of the unique aspects of this program is that STARR candidates are evaluated and scored by a peer-review team in each category.

Career Progression

When you work for the Kansas City Plant and demonstrate a high level of ability, you don't stay in one job for long. We challenge our associates to step outside their comfort zones and develop additional skills. For the Kansas City Plant, this means your strengths are shared across business and sometimes functional lines. For you, it means greater exposure and the opportunity to develop broader and deeper knowledge.

The next step in career progression is becoming a leader. By successfully demonstrating your leadership skills, your career can move to a strategic leadership role. Your goals, along with your commitment to learning, will fuel your career track at the Kansas City Plant. We have plenty of opportunities for those who want to achieve.
