Ask the EngineerThe following "Ask The Engineer" pages are a collection of frequently asked application schematics for electronics designers and experimenters needing examples of typical interfacing circuits for magnetic sensors. The depictions are done in an "engineer's notebook" fashion for brevity.

  Battery Powered Current Sensor - For non-contact current sensing of a conductor for both AC and DC, using the HMC1021S.
  Disturbance Sensor - Simple circuit for laptop computers, portable devices, etc. for detecting change in location.
  Simple Magnetic Gradiometer - Used to detect metal objects.
  2-Axis Wireless Phone Compass Circuit - Low power compass design appropriate for handheld devices such as a cell phone. Uses a two-axis magnetic sensor, HMC1052 and an H-bridge set/reset strap driver circuit.
  Set/Reset Strap Driver for the HMC2003 - An updated HMC2003 set/reset strap driver stage using an H-bridge plus 10-volt CMOS logic from a +15 volt supply.
  6-Axis Compass with SiRFstar3 Chipset - Design a compass that shares the SiRFstar3 SPI interface using Honeywell's latest integrated sensors for compassing.
