Automotive Turbocharger Manufacturer Recognized for Outstanding People Management Practices
PUNE, INDIA, July 21, 2009: Honeywell Turbo Technologies, a business group of Honeywell International (NYSE: HON), was the winner of the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Awards for HR Excellence 2009. The award, instituted by SAIL and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad (IIM-A), recognizes ground-breaking contributions in the field of people management processes in the Indian manufacturing sector. N. P. Thimmaiah, Managing Director, Honeywell Turbo India, Pune, accepted the award on behalf of Honeywell at a special ceremony chaired by Virbhadra Singh, Honorable Union Minister for Steel. “People are our biggest differentiators. The success of any of our businesses is dependent on the talent and skill of our people. said Thimmaiah. “This was the perfect opportunity for us to have a revisit our people management processes and assess their relevance and effectiveness. The program helped validate that our processes were on track. We are grateful to the Steel Authority of India and IIM - Ahmadabad for initiating this award.”

The focus of the 2009 SAIL award is to recognize organizations that effectively manage talent through outstanding, innovative and cost effective practices that contribute to the intellectual capital or other forms of capital formation of the organization, society or nation. The parameters considered in awarding Honeywell were HR strategy, competency mapping, recruitment, induction, integration, performance management, training, organization learning and development, team building, value assimilation, job rotation, among others. The jury for the SAIL award included industry, governmental and academic leaders, such as: Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, Chairman, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC) and a member of the National Advisory Council; Mr. Sam Pitroda, Chairman, National Knowledge Commission, India; S.K. Roongta, Chairman of Steel Authority of India Ltd; and Prof. William J. Rothwell, Ph.D., Professor of Human Resource Development at The Pennsylvania State University.
