Overview

The Honeywell Perspective
Honeywell Turbo Technologies is part of Honeywell International, a $34 billion diversified technology and manufacturing corporation serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes and industry; automotive products; specialty chemicals; fibers; and electronic and advanced materials.

The Turbo Technologies business is a unit of Honeywell Transportation Systems, one of the four main divisions within the corporation, and is recognized around the world as one of the leading manufacturers of engine boosting systems for passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

The Technological Heritage
The turbochargers that deliver improved performance, better fuel efficiency and lower emissions in the 21st Century have their roots in the 1930s, when Garrett supplied a charge–air cooler for the B17 Flying Fortress turbocharged engine.

Out of this heritage has grown a culture of innovation that over the years has led to significant advances in aerodynamics, the use of high-temperature materials, thermo-analysis, and balancing technologies.

The pace of technical improvement has been staggering, with advances in every element of the turbocharger - from the re-engineering of the turbine wheel and turbine housing using high stress materials to the development of advanced electronic controls.

Although its foundations go back more than fifty years, turbocharging is very much a technology for the 21st Century as auto-manufacturers strive to deliver engines that meet ever more stringent emissions regulations. The challenge for the future is developing technologies that meet the needs of the environment, the needs of engine manufacturers, and the needs of end users.
