    Meet a #futureshaper: Carlos Aguirre

He is putting the right people in place to change the world.

Carlos Aguirre is a human resources expert.

He makes sure the right people are in the right jobs, brings talented individuals to join our teams and helps the company grow.

“I help maximize retention of employees and attraction of talent, allowing us to provide a better return for our investors,” Carlos said.

Based in Phoenix, AZ; here is his #futureshaper story.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a teacher. My father started teaching when he was 16 and spent all his career in education. I looked up to him and wanted to follow his steps.

    What brought you to Honeywell?

I was hired by a retail company fresh out of college in Mexico and was brought to the U.S. in a merchandise manager trainee job. I was then promoted to a role in Chile and subsequently went back to Mexico to work as a district merchandise manager. My last role was as district operations manager.

In 2000 I decided to go back to school and get an MBA and a master’s degree in information management. The investment paid off and Honeywell hired me as IT Project Manager in Tucson, Arizona in 2002.

What gets you excited about going to work every day?

Learning something new and working with very capable people in a positive environment that provides challenging work to help me grow professionally.

If you were a fortune reader, what would you predict as the future of your industry?

HR processes will continue to evolve and be more efficient. More self-service capabilities will give managers and employees more direct access to information as well as more robust analytical capabilities to help leaders make better decisions.

In your eyes, what qualities does a #futureshaper possess?

Someone that sees the future as something enigmatic and attractive and that has the curiosity to discover what it is and the determination to make it happen.

What advice would you give someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?

Whatever you do, do it very well. Take risks, raise your hand and go beyond your scope of responsibilities, seek challenging opportunities that stretch your capabilities and even make you feel a bit uncomfortable. Keep learning, always.

When you are not working, what do you do for fun?

I like to spend time with my four children, whether is supporting their multiple activities or just going to the movies or hanging out with them. I also enjoy exercising and staying active at the gym, playing racquetball, tennis or practicing jiu-jitsu.
