Clean Water Leads to Brighter Future for Thousands of Citizens in India

Honeywell India has partnered with Safe Water Network (SWN) to enable access to clean and safe water for thousands of India’s villagers.

Over the next two years, Honeywell and SWN will provide convenient access to affordable, reliable, and safe drinking water for communities in Adilabad and Karimnagar districts, in Telangana state, where unsafe water and sanitation account for more than 75 percent of illnesses.

“Honeywell India is committed to improving the world we live in by creating, supporting and nurturing corporate citizenship initiatives that make a real, sustainable and measurable impact on the communities Honeywell serves,” said Anant Maheshwari, President of Honeywell India. “Safe Water Network India is a terrific partner in our efforts, and we are proud to support their vision of offering access to safe drinking water in Telangana.”

Funded by a Honeywell India grant, SWN is building 25 iJal safe water stations in the region through 2017. The area suffers acute rainwater shortage and groundwater contamination, notably from fluorides.

Currently 10 iJal stations are operational in Karimnagar district with state-of-the-art technology, including reverse osmosis and ultraviolet rays, used to purify water and remove contaminants. Remote monitoring assures the stations are working properly at all hours of the day.

“Safe Water Network is focused on developing solutions to provide safe, affordable water for today and in years to come. Together with Honeywell, we are improving the lives of 60,000 people in communities here in Telangana. In doing so, we are also helping demonstrate the potential of safe water stations for millions more,” said Kurt Soderlund, CEO, Safe Water Network. “We believe that business, government and civil society – working together – can accelerate the speed at which people across India gain access to dependable and affordable safe water.”

SWN is a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing affordable and sustainable access to safe water for those who need it most. It applies a business approach to social problems by developing locally-owned water businesses for those beyond the reach of large infrastructure projects.
