Honeywell Chairman and CEO, Dave Cote, Featured on CNBC's “Squawk Box”

Honeywell Chairman and CEO, Dave Cote, was interviewed on CNBC's “Squawk Box” this morning live from the Export-Import Bank's Annual Conference in Washington D.C. Speaking with anchors Joe Kernen and Andrew Ross Sorkin prior to the conference, Cote spoke mainly about the importance of free trade and the need for corporate tax reform.

Cote, who previously served on President Obama's National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, commented on how government processes impact businesses, “I can say that we generally do not make any business decisions based upon what we think tax policy is or is going to be, because it can change just like this. What government gives, government can take away.”

Cote stated his support for free trade, saying, “It's one of the things we've been learning since the Phoenicians: that trade is a good thing, and creates prosperity for all the participants. You don't want to be silly about trade deals, having barriers going one way and coming down the other, but by and large, everything I've seen says this ends up being a good deal overall for the U.S. economy. The problem of course is while the overall system wins, and each country wins, there are people who lose in that process, and that is why I think trade assistance authority and that sort of thing makes sense to help that transition. But we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water and just say all trade is bad just because something happened over here, so I'm very hopeful that we will return to smart business; things that are smart for the country, smart for job growth, and trade does that.”
