Rebuilding Together and Honeywell Hometown Solutions Empower Youth and Build Stronger Communities

In May, Honeywell volunteers participated in two projects in partnership with Rebuilding Together Boston and Rebuilding Together Twin Cities as part of their annual community initiatives sponsored by Honeywell Hometown Solutions, the company's corporate citizenship initiative.

In Boston, 25 Honeywell volunteers helped with structural upgrades to the Dorchester Youth Collaborative (DYC) facility, which become a central hub of support and camaraderie for the 2,000 at-risk youth. The initiative included a day's worth of installing new flooring, plumbing retrofits, painting and ceiling upgrades as well as transformation of one room into a sound-proofed space for music recording.

“With a deeply rooted connection in Boston, volunteers were eager to support the Dorchester Youth Collaborative, an inspiring organization that positively impacts the lives of our city's younger citizens,” said Rick Asmar, Honeywell ECC Quality Assurance Manager, who co-captained the activities.

In St. Paul, Minnesota, approximately 100 volunteers, including Honeywell employees and Cooper High School students, built a storage shed, picnic tables, a compost bin and portable benches for Urban Roots, an organization with a mission to build vibrant and healthy communities through food conservation and youth development. Urban Roots cultivates local youth leaders through paid internships programs that provide hands-on learning and critical life skills, such as entrepreneurial thinking, resilience and collaboration. Volunteers also painted, repaired interior and exterior structures, mulched gardens and assisted with spring cleaning projects.

“We appreciate the outstanding efforts of these handy and big-hearted volunteers,” said Kathy Greiner, executive director of Rebuilding Together Twin Cities. “Thanks to their service, our neighborhoods can flourish.”
