Honeywell's Lindbergh: Shane Tedjarati Flies Solo Across the Atlantic

Every pilot knows that crossing the Atlantic on a solo flight has always been the ultimate connection to the spirit of aviation, ever since Lindbergh made his historic crossing in 1927. Recently, Shane Tedjarati, President of Honeywell Global High Growth Regions, has joined this special club, by completing his first solo flight across the Atlantic in his Cessna Citation Mustang, which he lovingly calls “Josephine”.

Shane began his three-day flight from Morristown, New Jersey. Despite challenging inclement weather, he landed safely in rainy London, United Kingdom with stops at Goose Bay, Canada; Kangerlussuaq, Greenland; Reykjavik, Iceland; and Wick, Scotland along the journey. Thanks to Honeywell’s Weather Information Service mobile app on his iPad, Shane gained access to real-time weather and trend information, including current, historical and future weather forecasting. With this information, Shane was able to optimize his flight path, resulting in reduced fuel usage and enhanced operational safety.

Another app Shane frequently used throughout his journey was the Honeywell MyGDC mobile app, a single source for all flight support service needs available 24 hours a day. Honeywell's Global Data Center offers pre-flight and in-flight pilot services for business aviation, including flight routing, U.S. and international radars, turbulence alerting, up-to-the-minute weather updates, airport information and more.

The GDC is part of the Honeywell's GoDirect portfolio of subscription services. With GoDirect, operators, maintenance crews and pilots have access to a one-stop shop for the services they need to improve their operations, enhance safety and reduce costs.

Interestingly, Shane is not the only person inside Honeywell that can accomplish a solo flight. A firm believer in “learning to fly is the best way to understand aircrafts and build aerospace products”, Honeywell sends some of its engineers in China and other High Growth Region (HGR) countries to take their Private Pilot License training every year, offering them hands-on experience of how pilots really use flight deck avionics and other airborne equipment to help them apply a Honeywell User Experience (HUE) perspective to product design, development and testing.

Shane Tedjarati is currently responsible for driving Honeywell’s business expansion in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. He has been instrumental in engineering Honeywell’s success story, starting in China and India and expanding globally to the High Growth Regions of the world where today Honeywell drives the majority of its growth.
