How Honeywell Science Experience is Transforming Education in India

Eight-year-old Qureshi dreams of becoming a commando in the Indian army. When Vikas Chadha, President, Honeywell India, asked little Qureshi about his choice of career, he had it all figured out, “I can use what I learn in science to map out an entire battlefield. It could also help me draw a sketch of the enemy hideouts and even help save the lives of my fellow soldiers.”
Funded by a Honeywell India grant and implemented by Agastya International Foundation, the Honeywell Science Experience can make Qureshi's dream a reality.
The Honeywell Science Experience is an integrated learning program to cultivate curiosity, nurture creativity and instill confidence among middle and high school students in government schools. With an aim to ignite intellectual curiosity, the program exposes students to learning ways they would have only imagined in books.
The Honeywell grant will support 11 science centers, 10 mobile science labs and 1,100 young instructor leaders, benefiting more than 48,000 students and 200 teachers in Bangalore, Delhi and Gurgaon from 2016 to 2019.
Designed to bring in th e Aah! Aha! and Ha-Ha! factors in to learning, the Honeywell Science Experience can help cultivate and nurture this curiosity, creativity and instill confidence among middle and high school students
“We run one of the world's largest hands-on science education programs for economically disadvantaged children and teachers. Support from partners like Honeywell helps us create the right infrastructure and get practical technology inputs to make such a program sustainable and effective,” said Ramji Raghavan, Founder and Chairman, Agastya.

Curiosity, creativity and confidence are critical life skills that can help children and teachers to excel in life. Through its uniquely scalable, hands-on teaching-learning methods, Honeywell Science Experience aims to foster child and teacher participation in experiential learning.
