Powering Automation and Safety Systems for Liquefied Natural Gas
August 19, 2016
Honeywell is providing a full suite of automation and safety systems technology for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility being built in Nova Scotia, on the eastern shore of Canada.
The project, known as Goldboro LNG, is part of Pieridae Energy and will process North American natural gas for international export through a LNG terminal and facilities for LNG storage and marine export. Upon startup, currently expected for 2021, the facility will be able to process 10 million metric tons of LNG per year with a storage capacity of 690,000 cubic meters.
Honeywell will serve as integrated main automation contractor (I-MAC) for Goldboro, responsible for designing, delivering and installing the distributed control systems (DCS), safety instrumented systems, fire and gas systems and operator training simulator (OTS) for the project. Honeywell will also help Pieridae integrate all plant infrastructure to the business enterprise systems.
Honeywell will provide a number of innovative and patented technologies for key deliverables, including:
- LEAP Lean project execution services
- Experion® PKS (process knowledge system) Orion with distributed systems architecture (DSA)
- Safety Manager fire and gas systems
- DynAMo® advanced alarm management software
- Uniformance® Suite PHD data historian
- Intuition Executive operational insight platform
These integrated solutions will enable both Goldboro and Pieridae to eliminate significant project risk, compress its schedule and ramp up to nameplate production capacity faster.
Honeywell technology is currently used in more than 40 similar LNG import and export terminals around the world.
