Honeywell Scanners Support Digimarc Barcodes to Improve the Retail Checkout Experience
October 04, 2016
To increase efficiency and safety in retail stores, Honeywell has added Digimarc Barcode scanning capabilities to its Xenon™ 1902 handheld scanners.
Traditionally, retail products feature a single UPC barcode symbol that contains relevant information such as the price. When lifting and rotating large or heavy items in search of barcode, cashiers risk fatigue and injury.
The Digimarc Barcodes, while invisible to consumers, are imperceptibly spread across the entire package surface and contain the same product information found in traditional UPC barcode labels.
By incorporating the Digimarc Discover software as an optional capability, Honeywell's Xenon 1900 and 1902 handheld scanners allow cashiers to scan Digimarc enhanced packages from any angle. Not only does this reduce stress and risk of injury, it improves store efficiency by reducing the amount of time that consumers spend waiting in line.
“Offering the option to read Digimarc Barcodes with our Xenon 1902 handheld scanners brings added value to our customers who need high-performance, disruptive data capture technologies,” said Stan Zywicki, general manager for Printing and Scanning with Honeywell Safety and Productivity Solutions. “Our scanners have set a high bar by supporting traditional 1D barcodes, 2D barcodes and, now, Digimarc Barcodes. They are the ideal choice for retailers looking to enhance worker safety and improve the shopping experience for consumers.”
Honeywell's Xenon 1902 scanners feature a custom image sensor that is optimized for barcode scanning and a revolutionary architecture that extends their depth of field, offering industry-leading performance and reliability for a wide variety of applications.
“Honeywell is a world-class technology and services company dedicated to making products that enable a safer and more productive work environment. We are pleased to partner with them to help achieve that vision,” said Sean Calhoon, vice president of product management at Digimarc. “Their inclusion of Digimarc Discover software in the Xenon 1902 scanners will contribute to significant improvement in front-of-store operations and the consumer shopping experience.”
