Riyadh, Saudi Arabia -- May 26, 2015 -- Honeywell (NYSE:HON) has been officially certified by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Interior to execute Industrial Security and Critical Infrastructure Projects (CIP) in the Kingdom. In addition, the firm will be listed as a global supplier to design, engineer and implement Integrated Industrial Security projects in Saudi Arabia.
The accreditation, which was granted by the Ministry of Interior's (MOI) Central Licensing Unit (CLU), will see Honeywell work closely on security, safety and fire protection projects in sensitive sectors related to petroleum and petrochemicals, water and electricity, industrial services and communications.
Saudi Arabia is today the largest project market in the Middle East with US$ 61 billion worth of contracts awarded over the past few years, and a further US$ 1 trillion worth of projects planned.
Commenting on the Saudi government's endorsement of the firm's expertise and capabilities, Anthony Azar, vice president & general manager for Honeywell Building Solutions, said: "This certification allows us to support Saudi Arabia's ongoing development in key areas and also strengthens Honeywell's position in the industrial security market. We look forward to working closely with our partners in Saudi Arabia and to support the goals and aspirations of the country by undertaking critical infrastructure projects which will be hugely beneficial to the Kingdom as a whole."
In 2010, the High Commission for Industrial Security Directives (HCIS) in conjunction with the Ministry of Interior standardized protocols for industrial security installations within the Kingdom. Their objective was to ensure proper risk mitigation and to pre-qualify companies who demonstrate the necessary skills, technologies and capabilities to implement complex integrated security systems for oil and gas, petrochemical and power plants as outlined by HCIS.
In order to qualify to bid, win or execute any Industrial Security or CIP Project, contractors must be listed by the Central Licensing Unit (CLU) as an approved company. The CLU controls and monitors approved Industrial Security vendors prior to them signing contracts for work in the above mentioned sectors.
