Honeywell’s commitment to diversity
took center stage in Boston, Massachusetts on March 24, with thousands of attendees watching the company receive a top award at the 42nd annual convention of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
. Honeywell was recognized with the prestigious Chairman’s Award, which acknowledges valuable strategic input and significant contributions to the goals and accomplishments of the organization and its members. Honeywell was chosen for supporting NSBE’s mission to increase the number of black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and have a positive impact on their communities.
Kevin Fort, NSBE’s executive sponsor at Honeywell, accepted the award on the company’s behalf. He is Director of Avionics & Electronics for Global Repair & Overhaul Engineering at Aerospace
’s Phoenix Sky Harbor site. “It was an honor to represent Honeywell at the annual NSBE conference,” said Fort. “It’s very moving to me both personally and professionally to be part of an organization that values student preparation and supports science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)
initiatives as well as developing a pipeline for black engineers to succeed in the workforce.”
A workshop developed by Goldwyn Parker, a Honeywell Performance Materials & Technologies
employee, was chosen from thousands of submittals to be featured at the conference. The “Degree in Hand, Career on My Mind” workshop focused on technical and leadership career objectives and Honeywell’s diverse portfolio of products and opportunities. It also covered the benefits of working for a Fortune 500 Company and elements of professional success. Honeywell team members met with nearly 800 students and potential employees at the conference, resulting in 168 on-site job interviews, four verbal job offers and second interviews for 17 students with Honeywell Aerospace.
“As a result of Honeywell’s relationship with NSBE, we continue to ensure black students are motivated to enter engineering fields, earn degrees and succeed professionally,” said Fort. “Participation at conferences like this is important and aligns very closely with Honeywell’s efforts to build, hire and promote a more diverse, inclusive and talented Engineering & Technology organization. Involvement with organizations like NSBE, the Society of Women Engineers and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers provides Honeywell an opportunity to develop a pipeline of future innovators, scientists and engineers. We strive to build a diverse and inclusive workforce where problem solving and solutions are provided by people with different races, genders, cultures and experiences.”
