LAS VEGAS, Oct. 31, 2016 -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced the Nov. 1, 2016, availability of the Garrett GTX 3584RS, one of the most advanced performance turbochargers developed for the Garrett by Honeywell catalog.
The turbo has an all-new turbine wheel with advanced aerodynamics and is manufactured with Inconel, a supper alloy of nickel containing chromium and iron that is resistant to corrosion at high temperatures. In addition, the turbine housing has also been manufactured using stainless steel. This new turbocharger is great for engine builders and racers wanting high horsepower and fast boost response in a compact package perfect for tight installations.
Suitable for multiple engine sizes, this turbo also uses new Garrett GTX Series Gen II compressor wheel aerodynamics and its new high-flow compressor housing. In addition, the GTX3584RS offers both hose bead and a new V-band compressor outlet options. The new V-band connection adds a flange on the outside of the outlet to assist in connecting the tubing with a metal clamp to provide a more secure connection typical of larger turbo configurations to help ensure sealing with higher air pressures.
“The new blade profile on the turbine side of the turbo is some of the most advanced work we’ve ever done for Garrett mid-frame product offerings (GTX30 to GTX40),” said Eric Fraysse Aftermarket vice president and general manager at Honeywell Transportation Systems. “While it has the frame size of a GTX35 turbo, it has the power of a GTX40. This is a great example of how we are integrating engineering resources from Honeywell and its Aerospace and Transportation Systems expertise into Garrett Performance Products.”
Other standard features of the new Garrett GTX Series GEN II included in the GTX 3584RS are water-cooled center housing rotating assemblies, ceramic ball bearings for additional responsiveness, and a fully machined speed sensor port for enthusiasts that are interested in data acquisition (Garrett speed sensor sold separately).
