How Brazilian Police Officers Are Protected
February 17, 2017
Police officers around the world need body armor that is increasingly being made with more flexible, protective and lighter weight material, in order to reduce the burden on officers without sacrificing performance.
In Brazil, that is definitely the case.
The country's second largest police force, located in the state of Minas Gerais, is using Honeywell's Gold Shield® material for vests designed to protect against a range of ballistic threats. The vests are being made by Glagio do Brasil, which manufactures protective equipment for several branches of Brazil's law enforcement and military.
Gold Shield utilizes Honeywell's patented Shield technology to combine a variety of aramid fibers and resins to meet specific performance requirements in soft and hard armor applications. The result is composite material that outperforms traditional woven aramid products.
“We sought a high-performance material from which we could produce vests that provide military-grade protection, while also being lighter and more comfortable than current models,” said Luiz Paulo Lopes, general manager of Glagio do Brasil Ltda. “With Honeywell Gold Shield, we can incorporate the most innovative armor technology into our products to help protect the brave officers of Minas Gerais.”
