Every year, approximately 14,000 individuals1 leave the armed forces in the UK, typically transitioning into civilian life within a one-year window.
Recognizing that this transition is more than just a career change, Honeywell in the UK is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment that allows veterans to feel part of something greater – understanding that these service members bring unique skills, experiences and perspectives that can significantly enrich our workforce.
To honor this, Honeywell prioritizes fostering community, providing support during the transition process and creating career opportunities that align with veterans' expertise.
An Employee Group That Provides Community and Support
In late 2024, Honeywell launched the Veterans Employee Group in the UK, an affiliate of the broader global Honeywell Veterans Employee Network (HVEN). While HVEN has historically been United States-based, this UK chapter is the first veteran’s employee group for the company outside the US.
“Honeywell's commitment to veterans and the UK Veterans Employee Group resonates with the importance of inclusivity and support for individuals who have dedicated their lives to serving their country,” said Kye Williams, UK Veterans Employee Group chair and co-founder. “Being part of a company that values the experiences and skills of veterans fosters a sense of belonging and camaraderie.”
Honeywell’s UK Veterans Employee Group facilitates networking, mentorship and collaboration, empowering veterans and non-veteran employees who are interested in the community to share their insights and support each other.
“This sense of belonging is vital for personal and professional development, making veterans feel integrated and supported within the organization,” Williams said.
The Armed Forces Covenant: A Pledge to Veterans and Their Families
Honeywell’s dedication to veteran inclusion in the UK has taken a meaningful step forward with the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant, a public pledge to support serving personnel, veterans and their families. The Covenant reflects the belief that those who serve, or have served, deserve respect, opportunity and fairness in the workplace and beyond.
“Signing the covenant sets a standard for our organization to provide support through employment opportunities, training and resources tailored to help veterans transition successfully into civilian roles,” Williams said. “This significant step not only exemplifies our dedication but also inspires a culture of respect and gratitude within Honeywell.”
By signing, Honeywell joins a growing network of UK employers who recognize the unique skills and experiences veterans bring to civilian life. It also marks the company’s entry into the UK’s Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), which highlights organizations that go above and beyond in their support for the armed forces community.
Hiring and Talent Development Initiatives for Successful Transitioning
Honeywell is investing in collaborations in the UK to further support its veteran community, including:
- Creating a cohort-based hiring program in collaboration with Redployable, a veteran-owned recruitment firm. The initiative provides fully funded, one-year training roles in Building Automation and Fire Safety Field Services, targeting veterans with electrical engineering backgrounds to support their transition to civilian careers and fill service engineering talent gaps.
- Collaborating with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP), the official transition partner of the UK Ministry of Defence. The CTP supports over 14,000 individuals leaving the armed forces each year by providing recruitment events and career guidance.
- Partnering with Veteran X, a tech platform launched this year that assists veterans in navigating career, education and healthcare pathways, ensuring that it effectively meets the evolving needs of the veteran community.
