Meet a #futureshaper: Yamilet Esquivel

She's designing the future of aircraft experiences.

As a child, Yamilet Esquivel wanted to be many things - from a cashier to a doctor. As an adult, she planned to go to school for pre-med.

Ultimately, she decided to pursue graphic design.

Now, Yamilet and her team designs what you see and do in an app, specifically for pilots interacting with an aircraft.

Based in Mexico City, Mexico; here is her #futureshaper story.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Since I was a child, my imagination has been wild, so I have always wanted to be and do many things. Honestly, one of my most consistent desires was to be a cashier at a supermarket, I loved the idea of using the register and scanning goods.

What brought you to Honeywell?

I consider myself a tech enthusiast and as I evolved and designed digital products, I decided that I needed to be part of a company developing and investing in technology.

What gets you excited about going to work every day?

I enjoy the little things; I love having coffee every morning with co-workers who are also friends and our daily team meetings to share work progress and status, however, we also share knowledge, talk about interesting topics and joke around a bit. Every day I learn something new.

Did you ever imagine you would end up in the job you are now?

Not at all, I was in pre-med, but I dropped out last minute to study graphic design. I started my career as an Art Director for advertising but UX found me.

If you were a fortune reader, what would you predict as the future of your industry?

I see the future including urban air mobility, electric aircraft and neural interfaces, which is a brain-controlled computer interface.

In your eyes, what qualities does a #futureshaper possess?

A #futureshaper is a person that wants to leave a mark on the future, accepts challenges, is eager to learn, evolve and looks out for others.

What advice would you give someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?

Do it! Even when you don’t know how to do it. Always trust your gut.

When you are not working, what do you do for fun?

My favorite things right now are hanging out with friends and family, streaming TV shows, playing videogames and online shopping.
