Honeywell Aerospace ITEC Engines to Power Poland's New Advanced Trainer Fleet

International Turbine Engine Company's F124/F125 engine family now selected by six international governments

ROLLE, Switzerland, September. 22, 2014 -- The International Turbine Engine Company LLC (ITEC), a joint venture between Honeywell Aerospace ( NYSE:HON) and Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC), has received an order from Alenia Aermacchi to supply propulsion engines for Poland's eight new Alenia Aermacchi M-346 Master advanced jet trainers.

With over 800,000 operating hours across the entire F124/F125 turbofan engine family to-date, ITEC's F124-GA-200 turbofan engines deliver best-in-class thrust-to-weight ratio, proven reliability and increased operational efficiency to Poland's future fighter trainer operations. In addition to the engines for the Polish fleet, ITEC will deliver an additional batch of engines to Alenia Aermacchi for future M-346 operators.

“The F124 is successful because it hits the sweet spot of performance and efficiency,” said Steve Lien, vice president, Defense & Space International, Honeywell Aerospace. “The modern advanced jet trainer needs to be able to simulate a wide range of modern fighter aircraft for defense departments that are increasingly having to focus on cost reduction and improved fleet availability. By striking this balance the F124-powered M-346 is seeing increased levels of service within militaries around the world.”

The order, which could be extended if Poland chooses to exercise its option for additional aircraft from Alenia Aermacchi, makes Poland the sixth country to select the F124/F125 engine family. The F124/F125 already has operational status on Taiwan's Indigenous Defense Fighter and the Czech Republic Air Force's L159 light combat aircraft and is also powering the M-346 fleets of the Italian Air Force and Republic of Singapore Air Force. In another recent milestone for the engine family, the Israeli Air Force took delivery of the first of thirty F124-powered M-346 aircraft on July 9 2014.

Poland's new M-346 aircraft will replace the country's long-serving PZL TS-11 Iskra fleet, enabling its pilots to better simulate conditions similar to the F-16 Fighting Falcon that has been the country's combat fighter of choice for the past five years, as well as other platforms including the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. The first aircraft complete with the ITEC F124 engine are scheduled for delivery to Poland in the second half of 2016.

The F124 engine plays an important role in the M-346's ability to simulate the widest possible range of modern fighter aircraft. Each of the M-346's two power plants deliver over 6,000lbs of thrust to produce high acceleration and angle of attack, high speed training environments and combat aircraft-levels of performance.

To improve ease of maintenance and reduce costs, the F124 continuously monitors its own health status, providing customers with diagnostic information to assist in maintenance-planning and cost management. Because of its modular design, replacement of many key components can be completed easily on the tarmac to reduce downtime and maintenance manpower requirements.

In addition the F124 increases safety of flight thanks to its robust design and high stability margin, and features unrestricted throttle movement and a number of automated control systems that reduce pilot workload and help him or her to focus on flying the aircraft.
