State Environmental Voluntary Protection Program (Tonawanda)
Honeywell’s Tonawanda, New York, UOP manufacturing site received the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star certification from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in 2019. Under VPP, OSHA works directly with manufacturing plants to ensure they have the processes and, more importantly, the sustainable culture to deliver world-class safety. Tonawanda joins the other 23 VPP Honeywell in the United States.
State Environmental Voluntary Protection Program (Mexico)
In April 2019, the Governor of Chihuahua recognized three Honeywell sites Juarez (Ademco), Juarez (System Sensor), and Chihuahua (Honeywell Chihuahua Machining Operations, Aerospace) for their performance in the State Environmental Voluntary Protection Program.
Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award
The Onondaga Lake cleanup team received the 2018 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award from the Syracuse section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The award recognizes the team’s “superior civil engineering skills” and “significant contribution to civil engineering progress and society.” The team, led by Honeywell, includes Parsons, OBG, Anchor QEA, and Sevenson Environmental Services.
Energy Efficient Company (Hungary)
Nagykanizsa, Hungary, awarded as Energy Efficient Company for solar panel project aiming electricity savings/CO2 reduction. Received the award from Hungarian Power and Innovation Program, the Virtual Powerplant Program award ceremony at the Ministry of National Economy in June 2018.
Voluntary Protection Program Star Certification
Honeywell’s Bryan, Texas, Electronic Materials manufacturing site received the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star certification from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in 2018. Under VPP, OSHA works directly with manufacturing plants to ensure they have the processes and, more importantly, the sustainable culture to deliver world-class safety. Bryan is the 26th Honeywell site to achieve this honor.
Dredging and Port Construction Innovation Award
The Onondaga Lake cleanup team, led by Honeywell, received the 2017 Innovation in Project Design for Inland Dredging. The award was presented by IHS Markit, a world leader in critical information, analytics, and solutions.
Environmental Excellence Award for Environmental Dredging
The Onondaga Lake Cleanup Team, led by Honeywell, received the 2017 Western Dredging Association (WEDA) Environmental Excellence Award for Environmental Dredging. WEDA recognized the team for incorporating innovative technologies into an environmentally sustainable remedy for the restoration of Onondaga Lake, which is now becoming an economic driver for the region.
Baja California Award of Energy Efficiency
In 2017, Honeywell received the Baja California Award of Energy Efficiency. The Baja California Award of Energy Efficiency seeks to recognize the efforts of companies to encourage savings and energy utilization.
Exemplary Award for Voluntary Protection Program
The Industrial Commission of Arizona awarded Honeywell the Exemplary Award for Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), in recognition of six VPP Star certified company sites in Arizona. We received the award for supporting the agency with VPP activism, mentorships, and additional involvement on the VPP Participants' Association’s Board of Directors.
Innovation in Project Design for Inland Dredging
The Onondaga Lake cleanup team, led by Honeywell, received the 2017 Innovation in Project Design for Inland Dredging. The award was presented by IHS Markit, a world leader in critical information, analytics, and solutions.
New Jersey Environmental Stewardship Award
Honeywell’s Morris Plains Headquarters has received the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Environmental Stewardship Award. The program recognizes the voluntary proactive measures taken to exceed regulatory requirements and industry norms.
Golden Peacock Occupational Health & Safety Award
Honeywell Technology Solutions India’s Hyderabad site received the Golden Peacock Occupational Health & Safety Award (2017) at the Institute of Directors ‘19th World Congress on Environment Management. The Golden Peacock Award was presented by the Honorable Mr. Justice Kurian Joseph, Supreme Court of India, to Ramaiah Kothapalli, HTS India, Hyderabad site leader.
Corporate Responsibility Magazine’s 2017 Most Sustainable Corporate Headquarters
Honeywell has been named to Corporate Responsibility (CR) Magazine’s 2017 Most Sustainable Corporate Headquarters list, which honors companies that exhibit an outstanding commitment to sustainability, extending beyond business operations and into the corporate headquarters. The 25 company headquarters featured on the list have been designed and constructed in accordance with rigorous environmental standards and represent the best of the best in green building.
OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs’ Star
Honeywell Flourine Products in Claymont, DE, earned OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Programs’ (VPP) Star designation for exemplary commitment to workplace safety and health. OSHA Regional Administrator Richard Mendelson presented management and employees with a VPP plaque and flag in Q1 2017.
Keep America Beautiful’s Vision for America Award
On October 18, 2016, Honeywell Chairman and CEO Dave Cote accepted Keep America Beautiful’s 2016 Vision for America Award in recognition of the company’s outstanding corporate commitment to civic, environmental and social stewardship. The award was presented by Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization that envisions a country that is a clean, green and beautiful place to live, to honored corporations since 1986.
LEED Gold Green Building Certification
Honeywell’s corporate headquarters in Morris Plains, NJ, was awarded in 2016 the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council, a nonprofit membership organization whose vision is buildings and communities that will regenerate and sustain the health and vitality of all life within a generation.
Audubon New York
Audubon New York presented Honeywell with the 2015 Thomas W. Keesee Jr. Conservation Award for its leadership “in one of the most ambitious environmental reclamation projects in the United States” for the cleanup and restoration of Onondaga Lake in Central New York. Kate Adams, Honeywell Senior Vice President and General Counsel, accepted the award at Audubon New York’s fall benefit in New York City on November 4, 2015.
2015 Robert W. Campbell Award
Honeywell Aerospace was awarded the National Safety Council’s prestigious 2015 Robert W. Campbell Award for outstanding business achievement through the integration of employee health, safety, and environment management. Built upon scientific evaluation, the award recognizes businesses worldwide that have ingrained these three aspects as key business values throughout their organization.

Honeywell ranked #4 in the industrial/manufacturing sector of Security Magazine’s Security 500. The benchmarking survey measures the frontrunners and thought-leaders in a given industry, based on data related key metrics. This year, the metrics included emerging/frontier market risk, workplace violence, cyber security, fraud/IP theft, and budget.
National Safety Council
Honeywell’s Jason Chilton was recognized by the National Safety Council in 2014 for being a Rising Star of Safety. The honor is given to those who address new challenges, promote a cycle of continuous improvement, and create initiatives focused on measurable outcomes.
Honeywell’s Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T) site in Albuquerque received a Perfect Record Award from the National Safety Council in June 2014 for operating 395,775 employee hours without occupational injury or illness involving days away from work. (April 1, 2013 to April 1, 2014).
The FM&T Kansas City plant received the National Safety Council Perfect Record Award for operating 4,960,42 employee hours without incurring a fatality or days away from work. (January 1 to December 31, 2013) The site also received the Council’s Occupational Excellence Achievement Award for 2013 performance for days away from work being less than 50% of the Bureau of Labor Services rating. In addition, the Council’s Significant Achievement Award was given to the site for reducing its days away from work cases from 6 in 2012 to zero in 2013 (a minimum of a 20% reduction).
Carbon Trust Standard
Honeywell International UK Ltd., which includes all UK operations including all subsidiaries has achieved the Carbon Trust Standard for 2014-15. The Carbon Trust, based in the United Kingdom, “certifies that an organization has reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions, and demonstrates the commitment to becoming a more sustainable business supporting a cleaner environment.” Recertification is required every two years and this is the third time our Honeywell UK facilities have received this certification.
Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents GOLD Award for Occupational Health & Safety
Honeywell Aerospace Basingstoke has been awarded a prestigious GOLD Award for Occupational Health & Safety by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). The award is achieved by auditors from RoSPA completing a thorough audit of health & safety performance, procedures and training against HSE regulations and standards and grading the business as Bronze, Silver or Gold.
2013 Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award
In 2013, Honeywell Associate Director for Health Services Dr. Elizabeth Jennison was named to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology’s 2013 Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. In that role, Dr. Jennison serves on a team of national experts that awards the nation’s highest Presidential honor for performance efficiency and effectiveness for businesses, non-profits and governmental entities.
International Public Relations Association Golden World Award
Honeywell received the 2013 International Public Relations Association Golden World Award for its Green Boot Camp, a global, five-day interactive workshop and scholarship program that teaches middle school teachers how to turn their classrooms into fertile ground where ideas about sustainability can thrive. The award was received in the Environmental In-House category after competing against more than 300 entries from around the world.
The Business Council of New York State’s Environmental Committee Chairman’s Award
Honeywell was awarded 2013 The Business Council of New York State’s Environmental Committee Chairman’s Award on behalf of the Buffalo River Restoration Project. The award was presented to Honeywell at The Business Council’s Annual Industry Environment Conference. The Buffalo River Restoration Partnership is a unique public-private-nonprofit partnership, including U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Buffalo Niagara RIVERKEEPER® and Honeywell.
Baja California Award of Energy Efficiency
In 2013 and 2014, Honeywell received the Baja California Award of Energy Efficiency. The award was delivered by David Muñoz, Director of the Baja California Energy Commission. The Baja California Award of Energy Efficiency seeks to recognize talent that finds energy solutions and the efforts of companies to encourage savings and energy utilization.
NISO/NISG Occupational Safety Award
Honeywell’s facility in Waterford, Ireland, was one of 23 sites to receive the prestigious “Highly Commended” award from Ireland’s premier safety group, the NISO/NISG. The award recognizes the site’s outstanding performance in health and safety including risk assessment, emergency preparedness, promotion of health and safety at work, and much more. NISO/NISG representatives presented the award to Honeywell, along with other safety awards to more than 100 organizations, at an awards ceremony on October 4, 2013.
EHS Today: The 50 People Who Most Influenced EHS in 2012-13
EHS Today has named Scott Harczynski, Honeywell Aerospace Vice President for Health, Safety, Environment and Facilities (HSE&F), one of The 50 People Who Most Influenced EHS in 2012-13. EHS Today editors felt these 50 individuals “had the most impact on occupational safety, health, the environment and risk management in 2012-13.”
Harczynski says that HSE functions at Honeywell are not separate from business operations and at Honeywell, strong leadership support, fantastic employee engagement, and a strong management system that is truly integrated into the Honeywell Operating System are at the core of our success.
The Aerospace HSE vision is to be an integrated business partner providing unparalleled HSE&F value and uncompromising commitment to employee health and safety and environmental stewardship. The mission is to protect people and the environment through the capabilities of our global talent and the strength of our HSE&F Management System, Harczynski told EHS.

According to EHS Today, 2012 America’s Safest Companies demonstrate support from management and employee involvement; provide innovative solutions to safety challenges; report injury and illness rates significantly lower than the average for their industries; support comprehensive training programs; believe that prevention of incidents is the cornerstone of the safety process; have integrated safety into their corporate culture and communicate the value of safety to employees and customers; and substantiate the benefits of the safety process.
Carbon Trust Standard Certification
Honeywell UK facilities achieved the Carbon Trust Standard for 2016-17. The Carbon Trust Standard (CTS), based in the United Kingdom, “certifies that an organization has reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions, and demonstrates commitment to becoming a more sustainable business supporting a cleaner environment.” CTS certification supports our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the UK. This is the fourth time Honeywell UK facilities have received this certification.
Southern California Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers
Honeywell Building Solutions won the “Energy Project of the Year” award from the Southern California Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers for its smart grid project with Custom Building Products. Honeywell provides Custom Building Products with precise control over how its Bell, Calif., manufacturing facility uses energy.
OSHA’s Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program
Honeywell received the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s (OSHA) Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) certification in 2012 for its Atlanta site. This designation recognizes employers who operate exemplary safety and health management systems.
Aerospace Industries Association Worker Safety Excellence Awards
Honeywell Aerospace received the 2012 Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) Worker Safety Excellence Awards in two sectors: Engine and Engine Parts and Space and Missiles.
German Chemical Industry Association Honor
Honeywell’s Specialty Materials plant in Seelze was honored by the German Chemical Industry Association in 2011 for its safety processes during the association’s responsible care competition.
Governor’s Award of Honor in Minnesota
In 2009, 2008, 2006 and 2005 Honeywell received the Governor’s Award of Honor in Minnesota, the state’s highest award in Occupational Safety, from the Minnesota Safety Council. Applicants are judged on several years of injury data as it compares with state and national statistics and on their progress in implementing a comprehensive safety program. In 2010, 2007 and 2004 Honeywell received the Governor’s Outstanding Achievement award and in 2002 and 2003 the Governor’s Meritorious Achievement award.

Honeywell Aerospace received the 2011 Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) Worker Safety Excellence Awards in three sectors: Engine and Engine Parts, Space and Missiles and Guidance and Communication.
Clean Industry Recognition
The Mexicali Research and Technology Center received the “Industria Limpia” (Clean Industry) recognition given by the “Procuradoria Federal de Proteccion al Ambiente” (Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection) for October 26, 2010 to October 26, 2012.
Hawaii Green Business Award
Honeywell Utility Solutions, part of the company’s Building Solutions business unit, is one of six businesses in Hawaii honored with the state’s Green Business Award — given in recognition of outstanding green business practices. The Hawaii Green Business Award Program is a partnership between several state, county and city departments, as well as the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce.
Kentucky’s Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program
Honeywell received Kentucky’s Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) certification in 2011. This designation recognizes employers who operate exemplary safety and health management systems.
Aerospace Industries Association Worker Safety Improvement Award
Honeywell Aerospace received the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) Worker Safety Improvement Award for safety performance in 2008-2009 as the result of a 31% improvement in safety incident rates.
Green Award/Smart Growth Award, Jersey City, NJ
In July 2009, Honeywell received a “Green Award” from the City of Jersey City and the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency in recognition of our effort in the development of the Bayfront plan, a vibrant new “Live-Work-Play” community planned for the city’s west side. The Bayfront plan also was the recipient of the Smart Growth Award from the New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association in October 2008.
Best Workplace for Recycling and Waste Reduction, Seattle, Washington
We received the Best Workplace for Recycling and Waste Reduction in 2009 from the King County Solid Waste Department in Seattle, Washington.
Responsible Care Leader of the Year (2007)
In May 2007 the American Chemistry Council (ACC) honored Maria Krysa, the Global Leader of Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems for Honeywell Specialty Materials, as 2007 Responsible Care Leader of the Year. The award is given to those who provide exceptional leadership in achieving improvement in environmental, health and safety performance beyond levels required by the U.S. government.
Scottish Engineering Safety Award
Honeywell received the Scottish Engineering Safety Award for 2006 for a lower incidence rate at its site in Newhouse, Scotland, than the industry average as specified by the Scottish Engineering Health and Safety Executive.
Zia Star Award, New Mexico
Honeywell Aerospace was awarded New Mexico’s highest safety and health honor – the “Zia Star” in October 2006 as part of the New Mexico Environment Department Occupational Health and Safety Bureau’s Voluntary Protection Program.
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Award, Freeport, Illinois
Honeywell’s plant in Freeport, Illinois, received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) award in June 2006, for its outstanding accomplishments in the National Partnership for Environmental Priorities program as a result of reducing the use of mercury, lead and chromic acid in plant operations. At the award’s ceremony EPA’s assistant administrator for the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response said the reduction of mercury is “worthy of national attention” and that Honeywell’s volunteering to enter the program was “collaboration instead of command and control.”
Distinguished Safety Performance Award and a Meritorious Improvement Award, Puerto Rico
In 2006, the Puerto Rico Manufacturing Association awarded Honeywell Puerto Rico a Distinguished Safety Performance Award and a Meritorious Improvement Award for safety performance in 2005. The Distinguished Performance Award is granted to companies that achieve a recordable injury frequency rate of 90% below the national average for the professional/technical services industry. The Meritorious Safety Award is granted to companies that have achieved a reduction of 25% or more of recordable injury and illness compared to the previous year.
Beacon of Safety Award, New Jersey
In February 2006, the company received the New Jersey State Safety Council’s highest award, the Beacon of Safety Award, for outstanding continuous commitment to safety.
RoSPA Gold Occupational Health & Safety Award, United Kingdom
Gent by Honeywell, based in Leicester UK, has been awarded the prestigious RoSPA Gold Occupational Health & Safety award for 2006. The RoSPA Occupational Health & Safety Awards are given to companies that have good health and safety management systems in place. They are sponsored by The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety & Health, the leading UK health and safety professional examining body.
Best Workplace for Commuters Award, Tucson, Arizona
Two Honeywell Aerospace businesses in Tucson, Arizona, received the 2006 Best Workplace for Commuters Award from EPA and the Pima Association of Governments. Award selection criteria included the businesses’ efforts to provide multiple commuting opportunities to employees, as well as employee participation in annual survey and transportation programs. The businesses also received the award in 2005.
Chihuahua Ecology Award
A Honeywell site in Chihuahua, Mexico, scored 100 points of out 100 points, earning the prestigious Chihuahua Ecology Award. Abelardo Ayala, Honeywell Operations leader, was on hand to receive the award from Mexican President Vincent Fox and Chihuahua State Governor Jose Reyes in June 2006.
Environmentally High Performance Program, Mexicali, Mexico
Two Honeywell businesses in Mexicali, Mexico, were recognized for exceptional performance in 2006, receiving the “Environmentally High Performance Program” recognition from the Mexican Environmental Protection Agency (State). The awards were based on waste reduction achievements.
Outstanding Effort and Results Protecting the Environment, Mexicali, Mexico
In September 2005, the Honeywell Turbo plant in Mexicali, Mexico, was recognized by the Government of the State of Baja California and the Department of Ecology for its outstanding effort and results protecting the environment. The Mexicali plant was able to reduce its coolant waste by more than 280,000 liters since 2004.
Leader in Industrial Waste Reduction Award, Redmond, Washington
In April 2005, Honeywell received the Leader in Industrial Waste Reduction Award in Redmond, Washington, for its efforts to voluntarily implement innovative pollution prevention strategies, significantly updating its pretreatment equipment and methods, and significantly reducing the amount of industrial waste being discharged to the county water system. Honeywell was the Industrial Waste program’s 2003 EnvirOvation Award winner.
Landfill Methane Outreach Program “Project of the Year” Award
In January 2005, Honeywell received the Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) “Project of the Year” award for 2004 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for an innovative landfill gas recovery initiative. The reduction in carbon dioxide air emissions over the life of the project will be equivalent to planting 5,544 square miles of trees. The award was presented to Honeywell in partnership with Enerdyne Power Systems and Waste Management, Inc.
Sword of Honour from the British Safety Council
Honeywell’s Consumer Products Group site in Newquay, UK, was awarded the 2005 Sword of Honour from the British Safety Council for outstanding results in health and safety. This was the 5th time the site achieved this prestigious accolade.
Environmental Excellence Award, Phoenix, Arizona
In Phoenix, Arizona, Honeywell received an award from the City of Phoenix for 100% Compliance with 2005 Pretreatment Requirements. The facility also received a special Environmental Excellence Award for 10 years of 100% Compliance with the federal Clean Water Act and the Industrial User Discharge Requirements.
Hard Rock Reclamation Award, Jamestown, Colorado
Honeywell received the 2005 Hard Rock Reclamation Award for outstanding Voluntary Mine Reclamation at the Burlington Mine in Jamestown, Colorado. The award was given by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board and Colorado Mining Association.
Lowest Incident Rate Award, Urbana, Ohio
In Urbana, Ohio, we were acknowledged by the Springfield-Clark County Safety Council and the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Division of Safety & Hygiene with a Group Award for operating with the lowest incident rate in the safety council for 2005 and a Special Award for working in excess of four million hours without a lost workday injury.
Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, United Kingdom
Honeywell in Luton, Bedfordshire, United Kingdom received the 2005 RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) the highest honor, the Gold Health & Safety Award. The award recognizes excellence in health and safety performance by private and public sector organizations. Prior to an entry being accepted, a review is performed by a panel of industry, trade union, HSE, and professional safety organizations. Award criteria included accident/incident performance, leadership commitment, and HSE management systems integration. Over the last four years, the location has won a bronze, silver, and now two gold awards.
British Safety Council International Safety Award
Honeywell also received the 2005 British Safety Council International Safety Award for work at the Bournemouth International Airport, Christchurch, Dorset, United Kingdom. Only companies who achieve accident incidence rates which are better than the industry average for their sector are eligible to apply for this award. A review was performed of the location’s safety policies, safety plans, and the health and safety officers’ qualifications. Winners must demonstrate a high level of commitment to safety and health by the location, in addition to identifying improvement efforts for the Observation Program to demonstrate improvement efforts.
Work Safe Alberta Best Safety Performer
Honeywell Canada was selected for the Work Safe Alberta 2004 Best Safety Performer Awards for exceptional performance in workplace health and safety.
Tamil Nadu State Safety Award, Chennai, India
In Chennai, India, Honeywell’s Electronic Devices and Systems business received the national Tamil Nadu State Safety Award for an outstanding safety record in 2003.
