Firefighter Gear Receives Innovation Award
May 01, 2017
This recognition is presented annually to a company incorporating leading-edge technologies in products that benefit customers. The Life Guard Hood was selected for its protective fabric barrier and for its “superior fit, form, and function that allows for the seamless integration of the self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and turnout gear with the hood.”
According to government studies, firefighters develop certain types of cancer at higher rates than the general population. Designed by engineers in conjunction with firefighters, this hood helps prevent contamination from cancer-causing particulates commonly encountered when modern building materials burn.
It is constructed with a proprietary three-layer protective fabric barrier that blocks hazardous smoke particulates with 99.9% efficiency.(1) The hood's particulate resistance is laboratory tested and certified by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
“Firefighters are interested in new and better ways of protecting themselves against toxic smoke and other hazardous carcinogenic particulates in both air and water that they encounter on the job,” said Ken Schmidt, vice president and general manager of Honeywell First Responder Products. “Life Guard Hood helps protect the most vulnerable part of their body &endash; the head, neck and jaw area.”
