“Power Women” Talk Equality and STEM

Honeywell recently cosponsored the Moves Power Women Forum: Women's Rights, Social Fairness, and Equal Opportunity. During the event, 150 students discussed STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), coding, education in Africa, and “equal means equal.”

Moves Power Women

Moves Power Women Forum was designed to explore and highlight how women can make the most of their influence. Held at the SUNY Global Center, the line-up of experts included SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher, actress Maggie Siff of Showtime's Billions, and Christine Romans of CNN.

Elizabeth Bierman, representing Honeywell, spoke passionately about getting young women to embrace engineering. She mentioned that women have increased their numbers in many male dominated professions such as law and medicine, but the number of women in engineering in the U.S. has not increased since the early 2000s. Elizabeth also answered questions about how to get out of your comfort zone, be brave, and don't be afraid to fail. “Speak up for yourself, be confident,” she said.

Honeywell sponsored the event as part of our commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce and to emphasize the important role that women have in engineering and technology.
