Efforts to Improve Access to Safe Drinking Water in India are Recognized
May 02, 2018
Recently, Honeywell Hometown Solutions-India Foundation received the India Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award for its safe drinking water program Safe Water Network-India.Honeywell funds 130 safe water stations in Telangana via its not-for-profit partner Safe Water Network. The stations provide access to safe drinking water for 420,000 people in areas that suffer from groundwater contamination that can cause skeletal fluorosis, teeth mottling and stunting among youth, and spinal bending, joint pain, and reduced mobility among the elderly.
Communities access safe water from water ATMs (similar to automated teller machines) using their pre-charged radio-frequency identification (RFID) cards. The easy access allows more men to collect water instead of women who traditionally walk miles to fetch and carry water to their homes. The award was presented at the annual India CSR Leadership Summit & Awards in New Delhi, which honors outstanding and innovative CSR, sustainability and social enterprise projects.
