As energy demand continues to grow, regions around the world are navigating complex challenges – ranging from supply deficits to economic constraints – making technology an essential driver in how energy is produced, secured and optimized.
Anant Maheshwari, president and CEO of Global Regions at Honeywell, joined Sydney Wyatt, chief commercial officer of Energy and Sustainability Solutions at Honeywell, to discuss how artificial intelligence (AI) is playing a role in helping transform the energy landscape.
Here are a few highlights from the interview:
There is an energy trifecta emerging across regions
Maheshwari emphasized that energy security, economics and emissions form a trifecta that varies by region. These differences shape how nations invest in infrastructure and technology.
“Some countries have an energy surplus and focus on economic value, while others face deficits and prioritize access,” he said in the interview.
A diverse energy mix offers the flexibility to adapt as regional needs and constraints evolve.
AI is helping reshape energy operations from production to safety
AI is already transforming how energy is produced and managed. A survey conducted by Honeywell in April 2025 found that 85% of energy executives are exploring AI, with cybersecurity as the leading use case.
“AI is deeply symbiotic with energy,” Maheshwari said in the interview, pointing to industrial operations benefitting from predictive maintenance and throughput optimization.
AI can help upskill the workforce for a smarter energy future
With fewer new engineers entering the field, the global workforce is changing; the United States is already unable to fill about a third of its more than 400,000 new engineer roles created this year. AI-powered technologies like virtual and augmented reality can be a tool to help train and upskill workers on the job.
“AI can help new workers make better decisions faster,” Maheshwari said.
