Safe Kids at Home Educates Families and Saves Lives
Honeywell's Safe Kids at Home brings fire and burn safety education to children in Malaysia
April 04, 2017
The Safe Kids at Home Program was designed based on a survey conducted by Safe Kids Malaysia UPM, with the support of Honeywell. The survey revealed some surprising results such as:
- 51% of parents were worried that their child would be more likely to suffer from a fire or burn-related injury in comparison to other preventable injuries
- 1 out of 3 parents consistently teach their children on fire safety
- Only 11% of parents reported that schools frequently teach fire safety education
- More than 80% of parents stated that they use toothpaste as a remedy, which actually worsen the injuries
The program recently launched in Malaysia is aiming to reach 6,000 students in the first few months.
More than 300 guests attended the launch event organized at UPM, including government officials, representatives from the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, education officials, representatives from Honeywell, as well as 90 students from nine schools that will pilot the program in the coming months.
