Honeywell's Senior Vice President and General Counsel Kate Adams was recently honored as a “Legend in the Law” by the Burton Awards at the Library of Congress. The Burton Awards “honors the finest accomplishments in law, including writing, reform, public service and interest, regulatory innovation, and lifetime achievements in the profession.”In announcing the winners, Tom Sager, co-chair of the Legends in Law Committee, said they were selected “based on an outstanding reputation and a demonstrated track record of addressing complex matters of national or global significance. The honorees have also evidenced leadership, creativity and a uniqueness in approach to resolving challenges confronting their corporate clients. Finally, they are highly respected by the bench and bar for their integrity and professionalism.”In her acceptance, Adams shared her perspective. “This recognition comes at a particularly important moment as all of us are facing increasingly complex challenges to ensure effective corporate citizenship, integrity and compliance across numerous geographies, languages, and customs in a more global and digital world,” she said. “We also must enable our employees and businesses to remain safe and secure in cyberspace, physical environments, and travel. And in order to do our jobs most effectively, diversity of thought and perspective is critical.”“This is one of the highest honors a general counsel can achieve in a career,” said Lisa Rickard, a member of the Burton Awards' Honorary Board of Directors and the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform president, which sponsors the Legends in Law program. “Congratulations to these truly exemplary executives who set the highest professional standards for all others to follow.” The Founder and Chair of The Burton Awards for Legal Achievement is William C. Burton, Esq., a partner at the law firm of Sagat|Burton LLP.
