Celebrating Friends

Around Friendship Day, we celebrate a bond that has lasted more than 30 years

Friends are the family we choose. In honor of Friendship Day, here's the story of a friendship between long-term employees Lucy Rothauser and Luisa Foglia.

An Ode for Friendship

Their Story: Lucy and Luisa have been friends for 37 years, initially meeting through Luisa's sister. Then in 1987, Luisa convinced Lucy to leave her job and join Honeywell's legal department. Luisa's first position was in engineering, where she worked for five years before also moving over to the law department. Throughout the years, Lucy and Luisa have worked in the same department several times, including 20 years (and still going strong) in Performance Materials and Technologies.

Fondest Memory: Being pregnant together. Lucy was pregnant with her second son, and Luisa was pregnant with her first son. Favorite Activity: Lucy and Luisa love to have dinner outings and family get-togethers, and to go out dancing.Funniest Story: Lucy and Luisa have a bad habit of talking too much while driving together, such that neither is paying attention to where they are going. One time, they were having so much fun talking while driving back to their homes from the Jersey Shore, they accidentally ended up in Pennsylvania instead. They had missed all of their exits, turning a one and a half-hour ride into a three-hour journey. Now, when they drive together, they have to remember to tell each other, “Stop talking!” One Word To Describe the Bond: “Sisters" "No matter what happens, I know we can always count on each other for support. Her kids call me 'Zia' (Italian for Aunt) and that's how my son refers to her as well. So at the end of the day we are family, " said Lucy.

Their Story so Far: Lucy and Luisa have been friends for 37 years. They met through Luisa's sister. In 1987, Luisa convinced Lucy to leave Warner Lambert and join Honeywell (then Allied Signal). The only opening was in the law department, focused on intellectual property, which she readily accepted. Meanwhile, Luisa's first position was in engineering in the old CTC Building, where she worked for five years before also moving over to the law department. Throughout the years, Lucy and Luisa have worked in the same department several times, including a stint in corporate, but their longest time together has been in the chemicals business unit (pre-PMT), which was headquartered in Morristown, and has undergone many names and reorganizations throughout the years. Both of them have been with PMT for 20 years.
