Get Smart! The Latest Solutions for Heating and Cooling

Comfort is key. So it’s no surprise that heating and air conditioning systems -- that unlock our ability to control temperature – account for one of the largest single uses of energy in residences and commercial buildings. And where some of our latest technologies are happening.

According to the Department of Energy, heating and cooling make up 48 percent of energy use in a typical U.S. home, while the Environmental Protection Agency notes that heating, ventilation and air conditioning account for the second-largest single use of electricity for commercial buildings.

Nearly 50 percent of Honeywell’s portfolio is dedicated to energy efficient products and services, from programmable thermostats and energy management systems, to turbochargers and green fuels – we bring these solutions to professionals in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry (HVACR).

The Industry: Refrigerants

The Latest: Our technology helps many industries transition to next-generation cooling systems in order to minimize environmental impact and meet global regulations. This situation can be challenging, as it requires the immediate availability of solutions that offer similar or better performance without major changes to existing equipment or infrastructure. Honeywell’s near drop-in solutions meet these criteria, offering ease of conversion and simplifying the complicated process.

For example, Solstice® N40 refrigerant, based on Honeywell’s hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) technology, is now the most widely adopted retrofit product in the supermarket industry, replacing previous-generation refrigerants that are being phased out worldwide. Honeywell’s refrigerants are also being used to cool major structures around the world such as the Channel Tunnel that connects the U.K. to France.

With all the options available, selecting the right refrigerant can be a daunting task. Honeywell has made the process easier by providing a full suite of digital tools that HVACR professionals can use for accurate and reliable decision-making. Americans spend an estimated $29 billion per year on air conditioning, according to the Energy Department, so choosing the right refrigerants can make a big impact on costs.

The Industry: Commercial Buildings

The Latest: With the bottom line of HVACR professionals’ businesses in mind, Honeywell recently introduced the Light Commercial Building Solution (LCBS) ConnectTM . The cloud-based remote HVAC system monitoring and diagnostics solution helps buildings operate more efficiently by remotely identifying problems and providing preventive maintenance, meaning fewer site visits for contractors, lower training times and less time solving problems from the trucks in the field.

We also provide a range of pressure monitoring sensors for HVACR systems. As building owners and operators look for ways to optimize energy efficiency and comply with environmental regulations, new sensors can help minimize the total cost associated with pressure management. The newest line of Honeywell’s PX3 heavy-duty pressure transducers are compatible with many next-generation, low-global-warming-potential (GWP) refrigerants, including our previously mentioned Solstice® N40.

The Industry: Home Comfort:

The Latest: For the past century and beyond, Honeywell has provided not only companies and HVACR professionals with peace of mind and control, but it has also provided consumers flexibility when it comes to managing HVAC systems within their homes. Whether professionally or DIY-installed, the Lyric Round Wi-Fi Thermostat and Lyric T Series offer connectivity and remote access, whether from the road or a couch.

At the recent International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition (AHR Expo), we showcased these solutions to more than 60,000 attendees from the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) industry.
