Honeywell Acquires Nextnine to Broaden Cyber Security Portfolio

Attempts at cyber security breaches are growing at an alarming rate. To help industrial sites prepare for any scenario, Honeywell is acquiring Nextnine to further enhance its extensive portfolio of innovative cyber security technologies. The acquisition also broadens the robust ecosystem built around Honeywell Connected Plant.

Founded in 1998, Nextnine is a leading provider of industrial cyber security solutions and is backed by notable investors such as Infinity VC and XT Hi-Tech. Its flagship product ICS Shield provides secure management for connected ICS/SCADA environments by securing remote field assets from a single operations center. Prior to the acquisition, ICS Shield had to be deployed in separate or multiple installations at a single customer site. With Honeywell, it is combined with Honeywell’s suite of multi-vendor solutions to simplify deployment, enabling customers to operate a single system for their entire site.

“Each day, the number of attempted cyber attacks on industrial facilities and critical infrastructure around the world increases,” said Vimal Kapur, president of Honeywell Process Solutions. “This acquisition shows our ongoing commitment to providing our customers with a comprehensive portfolio of cyber security solutions to protect and defend their industrial control systems and process control networks. Honeywell’s extensive global reach will increase Nextnine’s availability to a broader range of customers.”

Nextnine’s solutions are used at more than 6,200 sites worldwide and span diverse sectors such as oil and gas, utility, chemical, mining and manufacturing. Its technologies complement Honeywell’s solutions, as cyber security is a critical part of the Honeywell Connected Plant program.
